Well lovelies, P has been in school (2 days a week) for 2 months now. My baby - kindergarten & in a French immersion program
& he is LOVING it.
There has defiantly been some adjustments and some things that we are still trying to work out. One of them being the best routine for sleep - making sure he is getting enough sleep but still trying to keep our pattern of routine going.
Our routine took YEARS to perfect for P. To say it nicely - he was a horrible sleeper - still can be. He did not start sleeping for more then 2 hours at a time until he was 2 years old and not solidly through the night until almost 3 years old. Yeah, a year and a half ago. So you can see why I was a bit (yeah, more like freaking out) nervous about this whole new chapter of parenting.

He is a very routine centered boy & to keep his sleep and food schedule in tact means having my happy, energy filled boy - necessary for both home and school. We had all his snacks planned and meal times coincided with when Daddy would be home and when bed time was. This was also integrated into Princess R's routine as well (although she has always been a relatively "good sleeper" sleeping through the night at 18 months old). Really another post for another day...
Anywhooo - when we went for orientation for the school and got all the info on the snack breaks and stuff way back in the summer I was thrilled to see the snack & lunch times were just off by half an hour - earlier. Easy for me to slowly switch. So over the summer that is what i did.
Another change that happened just before school was my husband began a new position at work - different hours and more responsibility. With this change - although creates a lot more work for myself now that husband is not home when the kids are awake - it gives me more leeway as far as dinner and bedtime goes. We used to eat at 7pm when husband got home & then the kids were bathed and in bed by 8:30.
With P waking up at 7am and being at school all day - learning French - that was proving to be not enough sleep for him (dude was grumpy!) and his expanding brain. I have been moving his bedtime back a half hour at a time until we find that perfect balance for him. Still ongoing.
The other struggle we have been having is getting him to eat his lunches at school. He is a slow eater and being on the gluten free and lactose free diet on it's own can be challenging - add on top of that a school that has a nut free policy - I have had to experiment a bit with what to put in his lunch. One huge thing i did learn though is he has a soy intolerance - reacts to it the exact way he reacts to lactose. He is doing so much better with the lunches once I started sending him with sandwiches (using Kinnikinnick bread) so he could have the same lunches as his friends.
I am thrilled with his enjoyment of it - he looks forward to it so much which makes getting up early so much easier for me.
Oh - and get this lovelies --- P already has a girlfriend and has informed me he is going to marry her & that she is the second most beautiful girl in the world (second to his sister R).
